Febuary 2008

The festivities of Christmas are now but a distant memory to us all as we now move into February and hopefully some better weather following a particularly bad January. However there is a definite lengthening of daylight hours and in no time spring will have arrived. The spring flowers are already poking their heads through in anticipation. I know plans are being made for various outdoor events in the not too distant future and I hope the elements are kind to us all as we get our young people out into the great outdoors.

St. George's Day Parade

This year’s parade will be hosted by 2nd Larne (Barnhill) Group and the date proposed is 27th April to Gardenmore Presbyterian Church (subject to final confirmation). There will be more details about assembly times, etc in a future edition of Greenseas. We had an excellent turnout last year at the Centenary parade and it would be good to see as many, if not more, at our own event in April.

District Quizzes

I had the opportunity to visit both the Cub quiz at 1st Cloughfern and then the Scout quiz held at 1st Jordanstown on Friday night. It was very encouraging to see packed halls at both venues with almost every group in the District represented. My sincere thanks to everyone who took part and especially to those who organised the events. Newtownabbey Borough Council provided some goodies for the Cubs which were greatly appreciated. The whistles especially seemed to be popular!

Greenseas

Please feel free to send in articles and pictures to Oliver who is always keen to get new material. As you are aware a lot of what is published also gets uploaded to the website for external viewing and it is a wonderful medium for us to promote Scouting in the District and beyond.
I would like to offer Oliver a sincere word of thanks for the outstanding work he does on our behalf on pulling together this magazine. There is a considerable effort involved which shouldn’t go un-noticed.

Thank you Oliver from everyone in SE Antrim.
