DICTUM

June 2007

We are rapidly approaching what is normally the end of the Scouting season for all sections although, with this year being our Centenary, it will involve everyone putting a little more effort in to organise getting our young people to the Scouting Sunrise.
Can I offer my sincere thanks to everyone for their efforts throughout what has been a very busy year. We knew that extra work would be needed to make it a year to remember and I am pleased that we were up to the challenge.

Centenary Celebrations

County Antrim Centenary Camp

From speaking to numerous leaders around the District it is obvious that it was a very successful camp with all sections being represented and most importantly everyone had a great time. These large events require a lot of organisation and my thanks must go, on our behalf, to the County Team (and especially those on the team from SE Antrim) who brought everything together to make it the success it was. The weather was kind too and as we all know that makes a big difference to the overall enjoyment.

District Leaders Barbecue and Quiz

This has been arranged for Saturday, 16th June at 7.30pm at Ballyclare Rugby Football Club. The cost has been set at £7 per person and each Group should already have been contacted about their numbers attending. If your Group hasn’t confirmed numbers as yet please do so in the next few days as we need to organise final quantities of food, etc. Let me know by phone or email as soon as possible and the more the merrier (remember it isn’t restricted to leaders). If there are any special dietary requirements please let me know (I’m assuming that most people enjoy steak although some alternatives such as chicken, burgers and sausages will be available). Some help will be needed on the night so could each Group please nominate someone to give a little assistance.

Scouting Sunrise and the Big Breakfast

This event will be on the morning of Wednesday, 1st August and we will renew our promise together with Scouts across the rest of the United Kingdom at 8.00am. Please assemble at the Marine Gardens (opposite Maud’s) in Carrickfergus by 7.45am at the latest. Immediately following the renewal ceremony I would like to present each Beaver, Cub and Scout with their Scouting Sunrise badge so each Group/Section will need to make these available to me on the morning. It is then planned that everyone attending will be able to enjoy a simple cooked breakfast before we disperse again at approximately 9.00am. (being a weekday I realise many of us will have to get to work). I will need some idea of numbers likely to be attending to help with the catering so if you can please let me know in the next few weeks. Once again keep spreading the Centenary message to old Scouts and leaders to give them a chance to take part. It has been mentioned in the Press but it needs the personal touch to really get the message across.

Slemish Sunrise

A number of Explorer Scouts intend being on the top of Slemish on 1st August to witness the sun rise on the first day of the next 100 years of Scouting. If any leaders or Scouts would like to join them they would be very welcome. The dawn will be at about 4.15am so it will be an early start but don’t let that put you off! For more details please contact Barry Preston in Kilbride.

Finally as we go our separate ways during the summer could I wish everyone a relaxing break and I’ll see you all again in September. Have a great holiday.
