DICTUM

May 2007

April has been a busy month in Scouting terms with the County Parade probably being the highlight of the year so far. No snow on our parade this year! We as a District have been busy on other fronts too with the District Hike being a very enjoyable day with the cloud eventually lifting to let us enjoy the views from the top of Shane’s Hill. Thanks again to Barry Preston for his efforts. Outdoor activities in general have been fortunate to have had extremely good weather during April. Let’s hope the Centenary camp gets a few good days too.

Centenary Celebrations

St George's Day Parade 22nd April 2007

This event was well attended by SE Antrim District despite having to travel the extra distance this year. The local press covered the event for the Lisburn Star and there are some photographs on-line at the following website – http://www.lisburn.com/churches/churches-page.htm . We all had a good day in the sunshine and well done to everyone who made the effort, it was greatly appreciated.

County Antrim Centenary Camp

All final payments for this camp should have been paid by now and final arrangements should have been sent out to all leaders by the time this edition of Greenseas reaches you.
Scouting Display in Mossley Mill My sincere thanks to everyone who contributed in any way to the organisation of this very successful event. It was opened officially on Tuesday, 17th April by our District President, Mr Harry McClintock and I think I can say that everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. There was some very good press coverage in the Times and the Gazette and there has been superb feedback from all manner of sources. The venue obviously helped promote Scouting in SE Antrim in a very good light and it was a wonderful sight to see the Scout flag flying proudly in front of the ‘Mill’. I hope than many of the exhibits can be taken to other public venues in the next few months.

Scouting District Leaders Meeting

This meeting was very well supported and a lot of District and sectional business was completed. My thanks again to 1st Cloughfern for their hospitality.

District Leaders Barbecue and Quiz

This has been arranged for Saturday, 16th June at 7.30pm at Ballyclare Rugby Football Club. I will confirm the cost by email to each Group in the very near future but please let me know in the next few weeks if you will be coming and remember that it is not restricted to Scout leaders. By way of a reminder could each group please nominate someone to help organise this event.

Scouting Sunrise

Once again keep spreading the Centenary message to old Scouts and leaders to give them a chance to take part. It has been mentioned in the Press but it needs the personal touch to really get the message across.
